Odd Rods® Sticker Series: Collector Information
The Odd Rods® family of stickers set is one of the Donruss Company's most
popular productions. However, it is also very confusing to collectors because
two of the original three sets - Odder Odd Rods® issued in 1970 with 66
stickers and Oddest Odd Rods® issued in 1970 with 66 stickers numbered
67-132 - were reprinted with the same artwork, under different names: Fabulous Odd Rods®, issued in 1973, a reprint of Odder Odd Rods® and Fantastic Odd Rods®, issued in 1973, a reprint
of Oddest Odd Rods® retaining the 67-132 numbering.
Another set, Odd Rod® All-Stars issued in 1971 with 66 stickers, was composed of
fan-favorite stickers taken from the first three issues, adding to the
confusion. Donruss threw in a giant wrench by issuing a "first series" of
stickers numbered 67-132 and following it with a "second series" numbered 1-66
they were called Fantastic Odd Rods® Series 1 & 2.
ORIGINAL FIRST SERIES ODD RODS® DIFFER FROM THE REST IN THREE WAYS: 1) The
"Fords Breakfast of Chevys" drawing in the back of each sticker has a number 25
printed in the lower right corner. 2) the numbers on the face are bigger and
bolder than all of the other series of Odd Rods®. 3) They only go up to
#44. All the other series of Odd Rods® go to #66.
A related sticker series put out by Donruss in this era was Silly Cycles® with
66 stickers with monsters on motorcycles. Another series was Fiends and
Machines® with 66 stickers which had a mix-and-match theme: 33 cards with
monsters on top, and 33 with cars on the bottom, allowing the collector to put
the 33 monsters on any of the 33 cars.
